Today is the last day of Songkran, the Thai New Year festival. It falls on the hottest time of the year, and it is true!! So no wonder why people start to wet others by throwing water.

I thought it’s something completely wild, like sometimes young people are in Italy in summer: throwing water to each other, running around, lots of laughter, being wild. But it is not so. Of course in places like Kaosan Road in Bangkok it is:

Italian food?

Impossibly big calzone... (Bangkok, Feb 2008)Impossibly big calzone… (Bangkok, Feb 2008 )

The picture is “calzone” in Basilico resutaurant in Bangkok. The restaurant is known to be one of the best Italian restaurants in the city.

When I saw this, I got shocked. In Italy, you would never see something like this… The real calzone, lookes pretty much the same, BUT a lot smaller. Maybe as big as your palm, not more.

Japan has developed so-called “Sushi Police” (The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, “Recommendation of Japanese Restaurants Outside Japan). Maybe Italy also gotta have one?

In Thailandia è molto meglio, anche se non è perfetto (Beh, è perché la cucina di una certa ragione si mangia meglio nel proprio posto! Giusto così). Ma mi domando… che cos’è questa “calzone”? Read the rest of this entry »
