why wear military?

Trench coat… I really wanted one, simply because of pictures like this:

BUT what if I have SO SHORT winter this year?! My real winter was the two weeks spent in Japan in January. After that, back to almost-always-warm Southeast Asia.

It also seems to me that this year I will have the longest summer in my life… Summer in Southeast Asia, then back to the terribly hot summer of Japan (The hottest weather in Bangkok does not compare to the heat of Hiroshima, for example). I will also have the longest rainy season, probably, in Southeast Asia and Japan (Northeast Asia, but I am not sure if other countries in NEA have that horribly humid rainy season).

Anyway, the only option for me is to wear a dress of short sleeves that look a bit like trench coat. Made of cotton, with nice belt to keep the shape, etc. I found some already, and am now looking for the one I want (I think I found one).

But why do people get attracted to trench coat or things alike? Trench coat was developed by the British during the WW1. It became a part of winter clothes in the 1930s. Last year (or the year before, I am not quite sure…) there was the new trend of wearing “military” things. Now it is “trad”, traditional. Do people want to go back to the basics, of decades ago?

Come to think of it, the movie “Always: Sunset on Third Street 2″ also is something of decades ago.
I do not like romanticising all the past, but I guess people start to see things of the past with some melancholy?

Back to trench coat and military fashions. 1) Is it a good trend, as it sees the heavy topics with a totally different eye? (Or that people who do not know the war have totally different eye?) 2) Is it bad, as it reminds of tragedies to some?

As for trench coat, now it’s been developed to something else. As for military fashions, to me it still seems a bit weird. Why wearing camouflage fatigues “cool”? Is it a way to justify the massacres?

Fashion always shows the mind of the people living the present. It is always developing. I wonder what’s coming next after all this “military” trend…
